Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet stated this Wednesday that the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état (1973-1990) comes at a "polarized" moment in the country, but that "no one can justify the unjustifiable" given recent surveys that show a I support Augusto Pinochet despite the human rights violations during the dictatorship.

"We arrived with a polarized country, with a lot of misinformation, there may not be an equal historical truth for everyone, but no one can justify the unjustifiable," the former president told ADN radio.

Along these lines, he said that these 50 years "have to be celebrated by remembering the past" and thinking about the future of the country, but "saying that everything that happened was unacceptable."
